Human Impact at Gros Morne
Humans have impacted Gros Morne in several ways, good and bad. Logging, deforestation, accidental trappings, mining, pollution, and hunting have all been posed as serious threats to the environment and to the species of the Gros Morne. With hunting, there has been several accidental shootings of already rare animals. Rare animals, such as the American Marten, have also been accidentally caught in snares and traps several times, which could be detrimental to their populations. Also, industries such as mining and logging have resulted in the loss of forests.
Luckily though, humans have also had some good impacts on Gros Morne National Park. There have been several plans and acts implemented in order to limit the amounts of accidental deaths of precious animals through hunting and trapping. There have also been acts, such as the Environmental Act, that have been put forth in order to make sure projects don't pose a threat to the environment. Humans have also helped save many previously severely endangered species by bringing them to Gros Morne, where presently they are able to thrive. |
